Captain Simon Von MacCorkintrapp rocks the London Palladium

So it opened Monday.

I went on Tuesday. :D

It was a total coincidence a bunch of us were meeting in London for 3 days to see some shows and we were originally going to see Mamma Mia but I made them all change their mind with some help from Kirsty and Saz. :D

We were sooo excited to see this. It's something I totally couldn't imagin Simon even concidering doing but after refreshing my memory with the film, he looked perfect for the role... and he is.

Simon's fantastic.

He has such a stage presense, he always has. His entrance felt a lot like Sleuth and his character had some of his traits and Simon's mannerisms. He's very much made the character his own but it works very well with what the character needs to be like.

We were sat on row P of the stalls. We had a great view. We got binoculars which were passed up and down the row at certain intervals haha.

At one point we had to control our laughter;

A nun to Maria; Do you love him?
Me; *jokes* I do.
Caroline [two seats down]; *seriously* Me too.

:P It was just so much fun.

It's a fantastic show.

We did wonder if the performance was going to get cancelled because they said there was a technical fault at the beginning, and asking Simon afterwards he said they nearly had to cancel it. We were so worried! But it all went on without a hitch thankfully.

The chemistry between Simon and Summer is fab too. We were "awww"ing the whole time.

Simon's dancing is fab too! He's really good at that. They were very cute.

The Von Trapp kids very just amazing. I was in awe at their talent. And they were so cuteeeeeeeee. Especially Gretl who we decided was Saz. :P

Now onto the singing,

well as Simon said in his This Morning interview it just needs a little bit of coaxing out. It's definately there, I reckon he's so much better than he actually thinks he is but he just needs a little bit of confidence in his ability. :)

Give it a couple of weeks and he'll be fab once he's settled into his role. :)

When they all came out for the curtain call. We all clapped the nuns and the children [because they rocked so much!] then when Simon came out we did a row P standing ovation and screamed really loudly. Everyone looked at us, losers lol. They should have stood and applauded he rocked! Then Summer came out and still no one stood up!!!!!

They obviously don't know how musicals work!!!!! You stand up! So we stayed standing and she pointed at Simon like Michael would do in Sleuth so we screamed again [she must have known his fan club was in hahahaaa] and he pointed at her etc. It was fabulous.

We then went out to the stage door, which, by the way, is, if you're facing the entrance of the London Palladium to the right, round the corner, and next to the really huge lit up poster of the Sound of Music outside the gates. :)

We had to wait about 40 minutes for him, which was ok, because he said he had a meeting [understandable, it was his second night.] Susan came out with him which was lovely. :) We were the only ones left waiting for him because everyone else left after Summer snook out [literally] lol She was wearing a hate and sunglasses so we prosumed she was in a rush/ didn't want to see anyone so we left her be. :) There was a woman stood with us about 30 mins and she asked if Summer had come and gone so we said yes and she proceeded to call her mean and b!tch about how she should have made herself known and signed programmes. Rude! So we said that she couldn't demand that of an actor who doesn't get paid to do that and may have other things to do! She relucted slunk off into the night after that hahaaa.

So Simon came out and went "Oh God" because we'd come on his second night lol. I explained our fabulous coincidence and he seemed pleased to see us. He asked how we were, signed programmes.

By the way, the really big programmes [£6] haven't been updated with pics of Simon as CVT so don't buy that one. He's in the smaller [£3.50] programmes. :)

He spelt my name wrong, but I was told afterwards that that was my fault lmao. I don't mind. :) We had a group photo and Susan introduced herself to us all which was lovely, she seems so nice.

I told him I'd got into University and we started talking about what everyone was up to.

He was with us about 10 minutes before he thanked us all for coming and to enjoy our trip. :)

100% reccommend it.

Fab show and I still can't get over how much time Simon gives just to talk to people! I have a lot of respect for the guy. :) He said that I had to be nice in my review, I didn't need to try. :)

Aw! What a fantastic picture, Kathie! Looks like he has as many "VonTrapps" offstage as he has on! Thanks for the review too. I would love to see him in this. I can picture him in the role rather easily, actually!

Go, Simon!

Thanks Celeste. :)

Yes, you're right, he does fit into the role perfectly. I wish you could see it too, you don't happen to have a TARDIS handy do you? Hahah

And I like that "Simon's Von Trapps"

Oh dear the SoM jokes are endless

Kathie, thanks for the great review. Love the photo - I'll bet he hated being surrounded by so many girls!! I'm going next Monday (week today) - now I'm really getting excited! I'm not sure what my Mum will think of waiting outside the stage door - tough, eh?! :P By the way, what time did the show finish? Mum would never forgive me if we missed the last train!!

You know I have no idea.

It started about half an hour late because of a technical fault so that wouldn't really help.

I'll check if there's any times in the programme.

Running time 2 hours 35 minutes including one interval. :)

You'll love it!

Cheers, Kathie, you're a star. And I can't wait! I broke it to Mum that we'd be lurking at the stage door - her first response was "Well, so long as we don't miss our train!" I did suggest driving in, but I think that scared her even more than the notion of being stranded!

I look forward to everyone's S.O.M reviews and I hope, Ali, you and Mum have a fantastic time. I'm sure your Mother will appreciate that lurking about stage doors is worth it - it's Simon after all. Here's hoping our provisional plans for Feb '09 comes to fruition, seeing Simon perform in this show would be fabulous.

The show seems to be fantastic! Oh, I just wish I can go as well, but I doubt it. It is a pity that I have to travel so far to get there. Ah, I'll see at the end of this year, beginning next year if my budget can bear it.
For those who all go; have a great time and keep me posted!

Good girls go to heaven, bad girls go to London to see Simon

I approached the steps to the London Palladium.
- Let me take your suitcase. Have you come to see the show? Gosh that's heavy!
I nodded twice, first, yes, I have come to see the show and yes, my suitcase is heavy. I had heard it three times before. Among other gifts, it contained 4 bottles of beer, one for Michael Praed. I had left the gifts for Simon :flowers: with the stage door manager earlier before meeting Simon personally as he came in. It was wonderful to see him again! He very nearly walked in unnoticed as I was chatting with Simon fans who were waiting for him, too, but he didn't get past me. I spotted him right away. However, I took no pic of Simon.

Sound of Music was phantastic! They all had such wonderful voices, and Summer Strallen was phenomenal! Anybody who can make it to London, by all means, do not miss that show! It was an experience that I shall certainly not forget. Simon was brilliant as Captain von Trapp. They all were so great, I nearly started crying three times.

After the matinee show, I traveled on to Windsor for the weekend and, of course, to see Ideal Husband. :partyhard:

WOW!!!!!

Amazing!

I was in a cafe before the performance having some lunch and my ma was laughing at me as my hand was shaking cos I was feeling nervous - this goes within seconds of seeing Simon but I still can't help it! unsure.gif

I meet Simon briefly before the play and was greeted with a kiss, and arranged to meet him again after.

The play was outstanding, I've never been to the West End before so was amazed by how it all went together with the set changes and costume changes (some sooo fast.) The singing of all was fantastic - The Mother Abbess voice is so powerful, and those children are so talented - some will go far!

Maria was the 'other one' not Summer and she has one powerful voice too - hopefully if I go again I can see Summer and compare

Simon acting was on par as usual, and is perfect with Maria and lovely with the children some of those 'aawww moments'

His singing in some of the more 'up beat' numbers like No Way To Stop It was perfect, very well done. However the quieter songs still needs some work (which Simon knows.) Simon's voice I expected to be more powerful he's perfectly on key and his voice sounds good, it just gets a bit covered by some of the other voices where he is not as stronger singer as the rest but with more practice he will be outstanding. He's got the voice for it he just needs more confidence. His singing voice was deeper than I expected it to be - I know he has a (lovely) deep voice anyway but this was much deeper, very nice.

Met up with Simon again after and had a quick chat, found out some TV shows and things he should be doing in coming weeks - need to keep an eye out for them

In the theatre today was Trinny, Suzanna (sp) and Liz Hurley with their children, won't be commenting on them.

It kinda wasn't a photo moment, I dont like having my photo taken and only have one with Simon ever - I'm not fussed about that - I did have a very nice chat tho - I kinda grabbed his ring and looked at it while it was on his hand  , he said he forgets to take it off hence he had in on for the This Morning interview - it is plain is supposed to have his regiment's logo on it - he says

The front of house will be redecorated with Simon and the rest of new cast next week - and the new larger brochure should be out soon too - with Simon pics

I know this is a little late, but I went to see SoM on Monday 8th September - our Maria was Emma Baird, who was very good, and has a very strong voice. With my classical background I'm used to a different type of voice, but this singing was all very good. The kids were all fantastic, and Gretel was especially cute. Simon was on excellent form; as others have said, he is not a singer, but he was well in tune, and I'm sure his voice will round out with practice - it's a very scary thing, to start your singing career on a West End stage, and he's doing a very enjoyable job!!

My excuse for going was that I was taking Mum for her 70th birthday treat, and she very much enjoyed the show. When we first found the theatre, I towed Mum round the block to find the stage door, and mentioned something about waiting there after the show. She said she wasn't going to wait there, so I said I'd park her somewhere while I waited, but once we got in to the theatre I discovered that the closest exit to our seats was the one that takes you out right by the stage door. So then Mum said she'd wait, but wasn't bothered about meeting Simon. Anyway, we waited, and he came out like greased lightening, and it was Mum that spotted him. I called to him, and he came over and said hello, and then I introduced Mum to him, and said it was her birthday treat, so not only did she get a handshake, but he also wished her Happy Birthday! Afterwards, she said that he did seem like a very nice man, so I offered to put her down for this fan club, but she said no thanks!

I have seen the film many times, and I really appreciated the differences between the film and the show, some of which actually make more sense in the show than in the film. And I loved the stage - so incredibly flexible and adjustable, and fast moving! I'm looking forward to going again, though I'm not yet sure when that will be.

Hi everyone, just got back from London saw Simon in Sound of Music on Monday night he was fantastic as all the cast were, really enjoyed it. We had very good seats Row J right in the centre I was getting very excited at being so close to Simon, he is even more good looking in the flesh and he has a lovely smile and played a really good part, I loved it wish I was going again. I was very dissapointed however after paying £6 pound for the book that Simon was not in it, it was the old cast, not happy, but had a fantastic time and really enjoyed seeing Simon on the stage.

I totally just got back from London from seeing this.

Well,

I've mixed opinions on it.
Obviously Simon was bloody fantastic  His singing was good, when he sings he has such a low, deep voice and he looked gorgeous in his suite & navy uniform (which my nanny passed comment on- and to be fair, he probably heard it from the stage...)
My nanny, sister and cousin are now all converted into Simon fans, all the way back "I didn't know he was so talented!" - they loved it.

It took me about 30 minutes to work out what the blonde coloured thing attached to his fringe was. I even brought some binoculas (which proved to be handy) to try and make out what it was. My sister was saying "it's a curl!'
Turned out to be a microphone.

I really couldn't stand 'Maria', she had a good voice, but it was just her, something about her annoyed me, and I can't put my finger on it. She was really 'sickly'. Like a desert! Anybody else think that the actor playing Max resembles Kyle from Tenacious D? The kids were all great, I loved the Simon & kid interaction! OOOhh when they were dancing was awesome

We didn't have time to meet Si afterwards, as our coach left 15 minutes after it finished. But we did try beforehand. We went to the stage door an hour or so before the performance begun, and there were two girls waiting, with a Dino Hunter DVD, and we asked them, and they said we literally missed him by 30 seconds! What happened was- they turned their backs for 5 seconds, and when they turned back around they saw him going into stage door, so they were more unlucky to miss him like that! But I think my nanny was a tad dissapointed  ( As am I!)

I didn't like the musical itself, but loved Simon haha

The program is brilliant, there is SOO many photos of Simon in it. We brought 3, and one of them was the old version with the old Captain Von Trap in, so my sister took it back saying " sorry we don't like this dude, can we swap it for the program with the other dude?" He just nodded. I think he was scared.
I couldn't find any flyers. But when the lady in front of me went to the toilet in the interval I may be guilty of stealing the one she had. She isn't gonna miss it though, and I know this because...she had folded it!!!!! But there's a lovely promo photo of Simon and 'Maria' in there. I also had a conversation with the lady behind me who wanted to know who played Captin VC, as she recognised him from Death On The Nile. *Queue simon trivia sharing with random lady"

Note to anybody going

This theatre does THE best chocolate ice cream known to man. :D

I didn't take many photos

Not that I'm aware of you can try the SOM shop on their website. Or ask if someone going can get you one

Edit - if none of the above you can try ringing the Palladium asking if they can take the money and post you one

Yummmmmmm. Absolutely loveeee this. It gets better every time I see it!

Well, ok, I was supposed to go on Friday but Uni commitments meant we went on Saturday instead so I was asked where I got to. We got row B. E.x.c.e.l.l.e.n.t. I went with my friend Sam from Halls, she really wanted to see it so I said I'd go with her.

I had a different set of children this time and :O *gasp* they were amazing! They absolutely rocked! I thought the others I saw were really good but these managed to top it somehow! They all seemed so confident and were on key for every note! Summer really seemed to be enjoying herself too. It really was just awesome to watch. We were sat right on the end of the row so I didn't tell Sam about the nuns and she loved it! She definately wasn't expecting it, bless her.

She particularly liked the Nuns, which I agree with, totally! The Mother Abbess blows be away every single time! She's scarily powerful!

And Simonnnn, it was really fab to sit so close to the front and see everyone's facial expressions! And the looks all the kids give to Simon and vice versa, it's so believable!!!

It was really funny when CVT kissed Maria and someone wolf-whistled at the back! It totally spoilt the moment but was really funny! I still find myself "Awwwwww"ing at the dancing scene! It's so fabulous! That's one of my favourite bits!

Alsoooo, I love Something Good. It's such a lovely song!! Any scene the Mother Abbess is in because she's amazing! And obviously anything Simon's in! Specifically ^ Something Good, Edelweiss and well I can't remember. Hahaa.
It's all excellent really!

It was interesting having the u/s for Max because I'm so used to the guy playing a really scary German but he was a really nice Max! I do prefer the normal Max and they guy [I should really find out his name how rude of me!] played the nasty German better but it was still nice to see someone else playing him! :) I'd quite like to see u/s Maria too sometime, but I don't intend on going back anytime soon, even if I want to lots and lots, yes.

I did get a picture because Sam didn't want to just get one on her own, then I blinked so went back for another! lol Oops.

She still has them on her camera. I'll get it asap.

We managed to meet Summer afterwards too! For the first time for me, she'd either left quickly or looked like she didnt want to talk to anyone before so I just let her go, but she was really lovely, and although she needed to be somewhere she would sign for everyone, even those calling her Maria. At least get her name right!

I had someone ask me who Simon was too. lol I had to laugh, I explained and said Captain Von Trapp and she was like "Ohhhh, yes!!" and mobbed him. There was a group of girls from Glasgow, down for someone's birthday, looking like they'd enjoyed themselves. Me and Sam just stood aside and let everyone talk to him. And he was as lovely with everyone as he always is!

I made a friend too, and did my bit promoting the site!! Her name was Hannah and she was on her own so I asked her who she was waiting for, and she said Simon. So I gave her the site address and she said she'd have a look, so if she joins I'd like "Site recruitment Officer" adding to my title please. ;) I'll look like a bit of an arse if she doesn't though lol I didn't scare her, honest! Sam thought I was a bit of a loser though lol

So yes, excellentttt night and I can't wait to go again, whenever on earth that will be lol

x

Scary German guy!! He kept smiling at us when we were stood outside waiting to see Simon, remember, while everyone else just walked past, see now I want to see him as Max, just to see him not scary. What was his singing like?

Nearlyedited your poset instead of quoting - too early

Hahaaa someone's got a crush. ;)

Can I just say, from a geeky media point of view of analysing everything. That shot of Simon looking really stern is so good! I love the lighting from one side and half his face in shadow!! Ohhh it's so dramatic!

*Cough* yes, great pictures.
