Actor’s costly fight
SIMON MACCORKINDALE’S battle against cancer cost him and his wife, Susan George, much of the fortune that they had amassed during their successful showbusiness careers.
A few months ago, the star of Casualty, who died last week aged 58, made a secret trip to America for private treatment that cost £50,000 for one visit alone.
“Before Simon was diagnosed, they paid almost every penny they had into supporting the Arabian horses they stable at their home in Somerset,” says a friend. “The cancer treatment cost them virtually everything”
It is understood that George, 60, who starred in the controversial film Straw Dogs, hopes to return to acting.
The actress, who was married to MacCorkindale for 26 years, has also made a successful business out of horse photographs, which sell at Harrods for £3,000 each.
