Ely- born Simon MacCorkindale – best known for his role as Harry Harper in the BBC1 hospital drama Casualty – visited members of Headway Cambridgeshire at Brookfields, in Mill Road, Cambridge.

Headway is a charity which provides support, services and information to brain injury survivors, their families and carers, as well as to professionals in the health and legal fields.

Mr MacCorkindale, who recently appeared at the Cambridge Arts Theatre in Sleuth, spoke about his acting experiences and shared some tips with the Headway drama group.

Mr MacCorkindale said: “ I hope I have been able to give them courage, and a little bit of confidence, as well as some technical reminders about what they should be concentrating on.

I am here because I want to support the charity. Head injuries are exceptionally traumatic and I hope that by coming here to Headway I can help publicise their work, and it might encourage other people to support them too.”

Andrew Gardner, chief executive of Headway, said: “Simon was great. He went out of his way to introduce himself and everybody showed a real understanding of the effects of brain injury. He left everyone with a big smile on their face and single handedly raised people’s spirits in a couple of hours.”
